Dear Family and Friends,
We had a lot go on this week. One of the main events being the baptism of two of our investigators.
At the beginning of this week we weren't one hundred percent sure if one of them was going to get baptized, but it all worked out. Tuesday I went on exchanges, so I left our area and went to a different one which was pretty good. We taught a couple lessons and had some fun biking around in the 105 degree weather. Later that day too we helped a lady move into her apartment, and it may have been 8pm but it was still like 101 outside. I don't think I have ever sweat more in my life than that night. The next morning we met back up with our companions and went to the hospital to give a girl a blessing who had been having a mental breakdown the last couple days. Now she is in Napa at another hospital, but when we went on Wednesday to give her a blessing, the minute we got there and said we were going to give her a blessing she calmed down and was able to have comfort. And she seemed to have been doing a lot better after we gave the blessing too.
Later we had a couple lessons where we helped some of the people we work with begin or continue working on their family trees. It was really cool to see some of the work in terms of connection already be available when we searched the right things. We've also been able to stop by the mission prep class and help with a few questions or act out some examples.
On Thursdays we have District or Zone meetings. This last District meeting we invited Alyssa Melton, one of the investigators that got baptized, to come and let us roleplay with her and tell us how we can better improve. I felt a little hesitant to ask her but she was probably the best choice out of all of our investigators to invite and teach. There are only 3 companionships in our district so there weren't a whole lot of people teaching her, but it was still really cool to watch and participate.
Saturday was a really good and interesting day. We visited a guy to see how we could help him get back to church. Before I had just assumed he was lazy and didn't want to go. But, after sitting and talking with him, we were able to find out his reasoning for not coming. The basic conversation came to be that he received an answer to a prayer that he didn't want to go through with because he decided so many years earlier that he wouldn't do what was then given to him as an answer. It has come to be that now when we goes to church he doesn't feel the comfort that he is supposed to feel. He also won't take the sacrament because he knows he isn't going to try his hardest to keep the covenants that he made and so he doesn't bother trying at all. He keeps all the commandments and doesn't have a problem with anything, except that he has this one small problem with God. We shared what we could, but all in all left it to him to decide since he knows what's right and that there's no spectacular way that this is going to end.
That night we had the baptism. The two girls in the picture are the new members. From left to right the people in the photo are Steven McBride, Alyssa Melton, Jacob Boss, and Paige Cunningham. Steven and Alyssa are dating, and Jacob and Paige are dating. It's easy to guess who is baptizing who. It was a really good service. We had a lot of really good testimonies and lessons shared, and towards the end Steven played "Joseph Smith's First Prayer" on the saxophone. President Palmer bore his testimony too and then we were able to talk to some of Alyssa's friends that came.
Sunday the two were confirmed and we had some really good testimonies in both of our sacrament meetings. Later on yesterday, we went with one of the YSA's preparing to serve a mission and we were able to go meet some of his friends and either invite them to YSA or to teach them a short lesson. Then we went and shared a lesson at a member's house. Pretty good night.
Today, there isn't anything special going on for us. However, we plan to go bowling later and do a couple things to have fun or keep us busy.
I got the razor on Friday when we got our new car. We took the car to get it fixed at Chevrolet on Tuesday and then our Zone leaders took it down on Friday to trade it out for a new car for us. So now we drive a 2016 Corolla with less than 2000 miles on it. It's a lot better than the old car we had. And I can get in and turn it on and not feel like it's going to die at some point.
We had a very eventful week this last week and plenty more events to come in the next week,
Thank you for your love and support and all that you help me with.
Love,
Elder Weber
