Dear Family and Friends,
It has been a good week. We had some full days with lots of people to see towards the beginning of the week and some interesting appointments and dinners with some of the members. Most of them were just really funny.
Towards the beginning of the week, we stopped by a non-member guy we go and talk to about the church each week and he had one of his friends sitting with him outside. The previous week we talked about why people think we're in a cult and how it doesn't really make sense what goes on in the heads of other people. So that day with his friend he decided to ask him, “Are these guys a cult?” His friend said yes, so the rebuttal was, “What makes it a cult?” He said that we had a cult leader and then proceeded to say a jumble of words that made no argument nor statement as to why we were a cult. The great part was that the guy we visit with began preaching of our church for us and to defend our church. It invited us to teach this man of the restoration and of church history and how we aren't in a cult, and that we have received direct revelation from God to restore Christ's church. It was a really cool experience to see a non-member begin to testify of the truthfulness of our church.
We were also able to see one of our progressing investigators get married on Saturday and we didn't even have to tell him that he needed to in order to get baptized. And set up solid appointments with most of our investigators for the coming week which always makes the next week feel a lot better because we don't then have to plan everything for that week.
One of the dinners we had this week was with the 1st counselor of the Brookside bishopric. So we had the normal conversation, the wife was asking questions about missions because her oldest son will probably be going this coming summer. But as we talked about some of the craziest experiences they asked about if we've almost died yet. I mentioned some experiences from biking for 6 months. Then we got on the subject of making songs with armpit farts in Virginia and Elder Newsome just about died because of how true that statement was. Then the next day we had dinner with a member of the YSA and her family in Lodi. She is preparing for a mission so we talked about missions again and had the normal dinner conversation mingled with some 12 year old boy humor of crazy jokes and weird things from school. I was able to talk to her dad about being a highway patrol officer and all of what he has done and got an idea of what I can expect for school and post-educational careers. So I got a lot out of being at that dinner.
At church yesterday in the YSA we had their yearly invitation for all of the new people to come. We had almost 3 times as many people come than normal. So we had a really good turnout and some awesome speakers, basically the Bishop and two Stake Presidents of the stakes. And coming up in three weeks we will have stake conference and other mission meetings with Elder Hamula of the seventy. So we have a lot to look forward to.
I'm doing good. Not much going on personally but I guess that's normal for a missionary.
Love,
Elder Weber
